AMBASSADOR OF THE UNITED STATES VISITED OFFICE FOR COMMUNITY AFFAIRS
On April 29, U.S. Ambassador, Tracey Jacobson, visited the Prime Minister's Office/Office of Community Affairs and talked with the director Srđan Popović. The main topic of the meeting was to resolve the issue of recognition of diplomas from Prishtina University which was relocated to North Mitrovica.
The OCA has, as a part of the initiative to improve employment policies of minority communities, raised the issue of solving the recognition of diplomas, bearing in mind that with the diplomas in question, it is not possible to apply for jobs in the local institutions.
Addressing this issue is essential for all members of minority communities who have completed a college degree, and due to the fact that the diplomas are not recognized, the members are placed into an unequal position compared to other communities.
Most members of the Serbian community study at the University of North Mitrovica, and by not solving this problem permanently, their interest and professional people would be lost, whose knowledge is more than necessary.
Given that the government is committed to increasing the representation of non-majority communities in public institutions, as it is guaranteed by the laws and constitution, the OCA will continue to work actively on this issue which receives a lot of attention of national and international institutions, Popović said.
