Kosovo Government commemorates Gorani Day
On 7 May, the Director, Office of Community Affairs (OCA/OPM), Mr Srdjan Popovic, representing the Office of the Prime Minister, hosted a roundtable in Government Building in honour of Gorani Day. In attendance were Deputy Minister for Communities and Returns, Mr Shemsit Kalajxhini, Language Commissioner, Mr Slavisa Mladenovic and representatives of the Gorani community, the Communities Consultative Council of the President of Kosovo (CCC), the Council of Europe (CoE), The Office of the European Union Special Representative (EUSR), the United States Embassy, UNDP and the OSCE.
In his opening remarks, Director Popovic, on behalf of the Government, congratulated the Gorani community on the occasion of Gorani Day, stating: In accordance with its mandate, OCA/OPM continues to support all non-majority communities in achieving their goals of full sustainability within the fabric of Kosovo society, while acknowledging and encouraging each communities individual uniqueness and needs. In working together with the Gorani Community, OCA/OPM welcomes valid requests, suggestions and recommendations that can enhance or contribute to the further advancement of this valued element of society
In his response, Mr Nasuf Brenoli, thanked OCA/OPM for enabling the Gorani Community to mark this occasion in an appropriate manner, by discussing in such a forum, those issues that pertain specifically to Kosovo citizens of that ethnicity.
