A road inaugurated in Bostan, Novobërdë/Novo Brdo

On Monday, at 11:30hrs, the inauguration of a 200 meters road took place in the village of Bostan/Bostane, Municipality of Novobërdë/Novo Brdo. The Office for Community Affairs within the Office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo in cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is financing the road construction project estimated at 18 thousand and 560 euro. This project is part of the Initiative for Positive Changes Program, and jointly founded by the Office for Community Affairs and USAID, based on a Memorandum of Understanding concluded between the two institutions.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Michael Murphy, Deputy Head of US Embassy in Kosovo, Srdjan Sentic, Director of the Office for Community Affairs, Susan Fritz, Deputy Director of USAID, Matthew Pietz, Initiative for Positive Changes Program Director of AED, and Bajrush Ymeri, Mayor of the Municipality of Novobërdë/Novo Brdo.

Mr. Sentic stated that the Municipality of Novobërdë/Novo Brdois a brilliant example of coexistence among different communities, highlighting that Kosovo Government constantly demonstrates its commitment to build a multiethnic Kosovo.

“Municipality of Novobërdo/Novo Brdo is a symbol of tolerance. Kosovo Government and USAID have established a very good cooperation with the local community in view of implementation of multiethnic projects. We are committed to build a multiethnic and democratic Kosovo where the rights and freedoms of citizens are respected regardless their ethnicity”, Srdjan Sentic, Director of the Office for Community Affairs within the Officer of the Prime Minister stated.

The Deputy Ambassador Mr. Murphy stated that this project will have a direct impact on cooperation between communities and improvement of living conditions in this area. He considered as crucial the Government’s role in the development of municipalities. “It is the elected representatives of this municipality who know best what is in the best interest of the community in local level, whereas Kosovo Government’s duty is to support the municipalities. However, the community’s role is crucial and the key message is that people have to be integrated into processes if they want to see changes.
These are the people who decided to participate in local elections in Kosovo”, Michael Murphy, Deputy Head of the US Embassy in Kosovo stated.

“This road and other projects implemented by USAID in cooperation with the Office of Prime Minister indicate their commitment to assist all citizens of the Municipality of Novoberdo regardless their ethnicity”, Bajrush Ymeri, Mayor of Novobërdë/Novo Brdo Municipality stated.

Following the inauguration of the road, students from the primary school of this village prepared a program with songs for the participants.
